INTER ISLAND TRAVELERS

4/1/2020

DAVID Y. IGE
GOVERNOR

Governor Ige issues emergency order requiring self-quarantine for inter-island travelers

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

March 31, 2020

HONOLULU – Gov. David Ige today signed a fourth supplementary proclamation that requires all residents and visitors traveling between any of the islands in the State of Hawai‘i to self-quarantine for 14 days.

The quarantine mandate takes effect at 12:01 a.m. on Wed., Apr. 1.

Those who must travel to perform an essential function, including those providing and seeking medical care, will have to fill out and sign an Interisland Declaration Form. It will include: Name; residential address; contact telephone number; and destination information. They must also indicate the purpose of their travel.

While performing essential functions, travelers must wear appropriate protective gear – primarily masks – and follow all social distancing requirements.

When they are not performing their essential functions, travelers must self-quarantine and self-monitor in their designated location, if it is not their primary place of residence. When not performing their essential duties, they may not visit any public spaces and may not allow visitors into or out of their designated quarantine location. Upon returning home, they must adhere to the stay-at-home/work-from-home order.

Violations of this order could result in a misdemeanor with fines of up to $5,000 and/or up to one year in prison, or both.
